Review Your Owner’s Manual

Maintenance should always start with reading your owner’s manual. This will have important information regarding your specific model. You’ll learn what maintenance tasks you should be doing and how often you should be doing them. You may even find out that there are certain products you should or shouldn’t be using on your powersports vehicle.

Protect the Battery

The battery is the heart and soul of your machine, so it’s important to take good care of it. If your battery isn’t charged, your engine won’t start, the lights won’t work, and the ignition won’t turn over. In order to maintain your powersports vehicle’s battery, check on the battery posts every month. These are the metal components that connect the battery to the rest of the rig’s parts. If there is any sign of corrosion, you’ll need to buy a new battery.

Tire Pressure

Tires are a big part of staying safe when riding your ATV or UTV, so it’s critical that you maintain them. Check the tire pressure before every ride. A tire pressure gauge is a great tool to keep close by. Make sure the tires are inflated to the correct PSI according to your owner’s manual.

Oil

Oil is another important component of your powersports vehicle. As a regular part of maintenance, make sure the oil has no metal shavings in it. If the oil is black or sludgy, you need to change it.

Spark Plugs

Your rig’s spark plugs help your machine start up. Because of this, you should be checking on the spark plugs as a part of routine maintenance. Disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover. Use a spark plug wrench to take out the plug and look to see if the metal gaps are clean and dry.

We hope this maintenance guide helps you keep your powersports vehicle in good working order. If you have any questions or you’re in the market for a new ATV or UTV, swing by Miller Implement today.
